1: Student Visa: It is the most popular and common type of visa people apply for. The tenure of this visa is up to 3 months. But later on, students have to apply for a residence permit which enables an extension of their stay in Germany.
2: German Language Course Visa: The maximum tenure of the German Language Course visa is valid for 1 year. You can apply for this visa if you want to come and learn the courses in the German Language.
3: Student Applicant Visa: This visa allows you to enter Germany on a visit basis or for visiting the university you want to take admission in. It offers the minimum & maximum duration of 3 to 6 months.
2: University Acceptance Letter
As I previously mentioned in many of my various posts that getting an acceptance letter from the university where you are going to take admission is the very first requirement of getting a student visa in Germany.
Directly contact with university authority through their official website/email address and request the acceptance letter that you will keep yourself till the entrance in Germany.
3: How to Apply for Visa
First, search out for German Embassy or German Consulate in your respective country. Then schedule your visit through their official website.
Upon your visit, apply for a visa and submit your relevant documents. Authorities will forward your documents to the immigration department of your chosen institute for further procedures.
NOTE: To avoid any delays, make sure to apply almost 3 months before your entry into Germany. Because the procedure may take some time to get completed.
4: Required Documents
- Filled Application Form having Accurate Information.
- A valid Passport (not expired one).
- Colored Photographs.
- Paid Receipt of Application Fee.
- Letter of Acceptance from University.
- Verified Academic Record.
- Financial Record & Bank Statement.
- Medical Celarance Certificate.

5: How to Apply For Residence Permit
Residence Permit is mandatory to extend duration of your stay in Germany. So, you need to apply for this permit within the first week of your arrival in Germany.
First, you need to find accommodation, second, register the address at Resident Office. You need to show your passport, rental contract, and letter of confirmation from owner.
6: Applicable Working Hours
Well, EU and EEA students are allowed to work without any restrictions. While students from other regions are allowed to work 20 hours a week only.
If those students want to increase the number of working hours. They simply can request Federal Employment Agency for the Foreigners to approve their work permit.
